Ample Labs, was a non-profit in Toronto and was dedicated to helping those experiencing homelessness through technology. The team that helped, consisted of designers, developers, researchers, consultants, videographers and public servants who have over 12 years of experience working with homeless individuals, including LGBTQ+ youth.
The last innovation from Ample Labs was Chalmers, a chatbot that assists those in need by connecting them with free services in Toronto. These services range from finding clothing and food banks to shelters. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the team also developed a chatbot that provides up-to-date information on the virus, as well as helpful tips and FAQs. The compassionate and skilled team at Ample Labs were trying to make a real difference in the lives of vulnerable individuals.
Role: Designer & Video Editor
The Ample Labs team, including myself, decided to create care packages for various homeless shelters (Fred Victor, Covenant House), community centres, and public libraries based in Toronto that worked alongside Ample Labs. As the lead designer, I came up with the packaging design and the boxes that were used to hold the care packages.
The care package itself included a variety of thoughtful items such as tea bags, a pop socket, a candle, a pinback button, and printed materials that had contact information for Ample Labs. Our hope was to provide comfort and support to those who are facing difficult times and remind them that they are not alone in their struggles.
Ample Labs and Desjardins joined forces to encourage honesty and open dialogue about homelessness. The Ample Labs team had a brilliant idea to place a vibrant orange sofa in the bustling Dundas Square in Toronto, inviting people to share their opinions and stories about the issue.
To promote this event, I designed a striking poster that was displayed on a sturdy springboard sidewalk sign, designed to withstand the harsh winter weather. I also teamed up with a talented videographer to edit the footage captured on the day, capturing the raw emotions and insights shared by the public.

TD Bank Presentation
Ample Labs, a volunteer-run grassroots tech startup, is always on the lookout for external funding to continue its mission of empowering those facing homelessness with technology. To secure support, I crafted a proposal deck for TD Bank, highlighting the remarkable progress that Ample Labs has made thus far and presenting opportunities for growth with TD's partnership.
